While the season remains the same, the rotation of months has seen a drastic change in the weather. Beginning from the last day of April and progressing into May, the evenings are marked by strong winds followed by lightning, thunder and heavy rain in Bangalore. The wind is so overbearing that the rain is forced to conform into a sheet of water droplets swirling around the apartment building at high speeds. The branches of the tall trees such as the eucalyptus and silver oaks are stretched and tossed about like waving ribbons. The morning always see some casualties from the previous night, trees toppled over and broken branches.

The mornings are cloudy, the sun’s absence is clearly felt; the ground remains permanently wet, the washed clothes don’t dry. And now it has started to drizzle in the mornings too 🌧🌧. The Kasavanahalli lake has changed it’s look; it’s wearing rain green with muddy trails on which you can slip easily. Cycling seems to be the convenient option now, if you have hands-free umbrella covering the head!

The birds seem to enjoy the change and this one👇 that looks like a purple (chick)hen is very common at the lake. It’s a water hen or a swamphen.

The walking trail has become muddy and slippery and on occasions, you have to balance on the stones flanking the path or take a detour outside to continue the course.

But the greenery is amazing ! The wetland adjacent to the lake has flooded and its seems to be the time of the water hyacinth. They are flowering en masse creating a violet cover on the green carpet👇. Hard to imagine that this plant is native to Brazil; looks so much at home here!

The crowd around the lake in mornings has thinned out because of the mud and the rain. There is also dirt strewn around from the laying of pipes along the eastern boundary of the lake and it’s very slippery. But for those who brave, the sight of raindrops on water is a beautiful scene and the cool wind is wonderful!

The eucalyptus grove too has been flooded and the shore line is inching further in👇

The newspapers predict more such rainy days ahead 🌧🌧.
