POTD: Spectacular Arali ๐Ÿ’—๐ŸŒธ

Today morning’s paper had a forecast on the monsoon by a private weather forecaster Skymet “Normal South-West monsoon this year” the headlines read; “But Rajasthan, Gujarat, some N-E states. Karnataka and Kerala to get scanty rains”; is this the normal !? “Fortunately, key agricultural states such as Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh and rain-fed areas of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh will experience above normal rainfall.”….the silver lining. However this is not the last word; the country’s official weather agency, IMD is yet to come out with their monsoon forecast.

It started off as a cloudy grey morning today in Bangalore with cool breeze, arousing hopes of a drizzle perhaps later in the day; after all it’s raining heavily in Kerala; but after the morning assembly, the clouds dispersed to reveal the bright blue sky. Rain or shine these flowers๐Ÿ‘‡ seem least bothered, they are happy to be up and swaying about on a new day. You have to marvel at their beautiful colour and bloom; they are a very pretty sight !

The Arali flower (Nerium oleander)

They are called the Arali flower in Malayalam; Nerium oleander and we have at our apartment complex three colours of this spectacular flower – magenta, pink and white. They are favourites in any garden for their showy flowers ๐ŸŒธ.

There are two types of petal arrangements seen – the five petal flowers and the rose like double petal flowers. The plant is as poisonous as it is spectacular. The pink flowers are a staple in the flower carpet arrangement for Onam celebrations๐Ÿต.
