POTD: Spectacular Arali 💗🌸

Today morning’s paper had a forecast on the monsoon by a private weather forecaster Skymet “Normal South-West monsoon this year” the headlines read; “But Rajasthan, Gujarat, some N-E states. Karnataka and Kerala to get scanty rains”; is this the normal !? “Fortunately, key agricultural states such as Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh and rain-fed areas of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh will experience above normal rainfall.”….the silver lining. However this is not the last word; the country’s official weather agency, IMD is yet to come out with their monsoon forecast.

It started off as a cloudy grey morning today in Bangalore with cool breeze, arousing hopes of a drizzle perhaps later in the day; after all it’s raining heavily in Kerala; but after the morning assembly, the clouds dispersed to reveal the bright blue sky. Rain or shine these flowers👇 seem least bothered, they are happy to be up and swaying about on a new day. You have to marvel at their beautiful colour and bloom; they are a very pretty sight !

The Arali flower (Nerium oleander)

They are called the Arali flower in Malayalam; Nerium oleander and we have at our apartment complex three colours of this spectacular flower – magenta, pink and white. They are favourites in any garden for their showy flowers 🌸.

There are two types of petal arrangements seen – the five petal flowers and the rose like double petal flowers. The plant is as poisonous as it is spectacular. The pink flowers are a staple in the flower carpet arrangement for Onam celebrations🏵.
