This beautiful flowering tree is quintessential to Bangalore’s nostalgic spring and summer months. The delicate bell shaped flower blooming in clusters and framed against the blue sky is an enchanting sight. Last year ๐ POTD: Jacaranda ๐

Learning a little about it’s history, the tree was introduced in India during the British Raj from Brazil; the tree is native to South America and the name Jacaranda means fragrant in Paraguay. However, the flower is not the fragrant part, it’s the timber that is fragrant when cut !
The tree was right there in front of the apartment complex; most of the leaves have fallen off and the flowers are a delight to see in the golden evening light, swaying in the wind.

The leaves are pretty too, compound leaves with tiny leaflets like the Gulmohur leaves and it’s also called as the Neeli Gulmohur, neeli meaning blue. The scientific name is Jacaranda mimosifolia; mimosifolia referring to the small mimosa like leaves.

Till next post, take care !!
