An easy way to know what veg/fruit is in season is to see what’s piled up on the pushcarts selling along the roadsides. Green peas are in season💚; but yes, you can buy the frozen ones throughout the year, but while the fresh alternative is easily available, make the most of it !
The little green spheres are a versatile ingredient and can be added to many dishes but when making them the protagonist, two dishes come to mind for me – the Green Peas Pulao (Matar Pulao) and the Green Peas Masala curry, a gravy side dish that can be relished with Chapattis or even Appam.
The Matar Pulao is easy to make and makes the lunch special ! Matar Pulao goes well with a non-veg side dish and here we have a Prawns Ularthu🍤 as the accompaniment. These two dishes alone are good enough to make a hearty lunch, but if you want to make it more special, fry some Pappadams for the crunch and chop up a cucumber salad for freshness🥒.
