An evening by the Arabian Sea 🌅

“Kochi, one night? No problems, will get you a shack by the sea.” hubs trying to be funny.

“You will love the views” he said.

Hubs was not kidding. The sea view was pretty spectacular !! And I must say, the shack is pretty grand. There was this after the rains kind of stillness everywhere, the weather was cool, the last of the sun’s rays was trailing off, the city lights were coming alive.

I was staying at the Grand Hyatt Kochi Bolgatty and it was perfect; the serenity and the view. The change in scenery was new and refreshing. Here I was, a tourist in my home town !!

I made myself comfortable in a chair on the deck and ordered a steaming hot chai ☕️ and khatti roll. I was sipping my tea and suddenly a blur of white walked in through the door.

“Hallo” he said

“OMG hallo, yourself” I replied in disbelief. It was my husband’s oldest cousin. I was not expecting to see anyone familiar.

“What are you doing here? ” he asked. “In town for a funeral” I replied.

Achachen looked like a cross between Santa Claus and Sadhguru. I told told him so. He didn’t consider it a compliment.

“What are you up to these days?” I asked

“Just finished a paper on the flaws of the SEIR model?”

A little background. Achachen’s subject is mathematics and he worked as a statistician. He is retired now and his hobbies are  travelling and publishing papers.  He tried to get me up to speed. SEIR model is used to predict the numbers of the pandemic. But it has some inherent flaws. The actions of  the government are based on the numbers the model throws out.

“Consilience” he says. It’s my second new word in 10 min.

“And I am using R software to get the graphs.” he said. He educated me on the uses of R and it’s simplicity. Sounded pretty complicated to me. We chatted for sometime and said bye. Back to the Arabian sea and by now the scenery had changed to a spectacular duo of black and gold.

Later for dinner, I went upto the cafe on the terrace. The menu was tempting, but I was full from my heavy evening snack and decided to try only a soup. The Colony Seafood Soup was delicious – squid, prawns, crabmeat and flat noodles with bite size pieces of tomato, garnished with coriander.

My room was comfortable and pretty. I had the garden view 👇

⛅️⛅️ The next morning was glorious. The pictures speak for themselves 😀

Scrumptious buffet for breakfast. There were many varieties of dosa on offer. I wanted to try the Mysore dosa. It was a masala dosa with generous layer of the red podi, not very spicy. It was nice.

And I couldn’t leave Kerala, without having Appam and chicken stew. It was lip-smacking !!

The Hyatt hospitality was superb. It was wow !! And most importantly, the change felt so good. It was only for one night, but it was nice. Soon after breakfast, I check out and head for the family function.

Till next post, take care !!
