Driving…are you crazy!?

Who wants to drive in the rain, jostling for space on the crowded roads with pot holes filled with water !? 🤨

Most of the old bridges in Kochi are two lane, but to get on the single lane, there will be cars, two-wheelers, autos etc converging at the foot of the bridge in three or more separate lines; whoever manages to get the first foothold proceeds…🚚🚙🛵🏍. It’s a game of skill 😁.

My car remains in Kochi, there is a good amount of dust on it. I am still very happy to see my blue Hyundai  i10 😘, now nearly a decade old. I get behind the wheels, start the car and recite ABC – Accelerator, Brake, Clutch. The car hums to life. I missed this…😊. It’s been nearly eight months since I last drove a car. In Bangalore, it’s always Ola or Uber.

Turn on the radio, rev up the volume, switch on the AC and reverse out. Outside it’s raining…the rain will wash away some of the dust on the car 💦. It feels sooo good to be driving again !! I am not bothered by the chaos on the roads; I have no meeting to rush to nor any appointment to keep. I want to eat first, masala dosa and chai (tea) at a restaurant called Oottupura.

It’s a working day, office goers have punched in by 10:00 am; schools are closed because of the rains, less traffic than usual. Finding a parking space is also easy as it is a weekday. Next some shopping. The music on the radio is good, fingers tapping on the steering, I drive to Lulu Mall.

Later meet up with an old friend for dinner at BTH (Bharath Tourist Home) – and feast on an evening staple channa – battura.

I drive back, laughing at the RJ’s jokes, fingers again tapping to music 🎵🎶, backseat with shopping bags 🛍- vacation bliss !!

Back in Bangalore from Kochi, again on an Air Asia flight and this time too we had a lady pilot – Simran Kaur ✨
