Good reads for the Monsoon #2 (and a perfect getaway)

on

If you are residing in a concrete jungle like Bangalore, you will want to get away to some place green and serene given a long weekend to enjoy the monsoon. Where to? Where else but to charming Coorg !! In Coorg we stayed at a resort called Old Kent Estate – one word to describe the place – bliss !!

This is not a travel post, so I am not going into the details of the places to visit in Coorg. We were there for 2 days and loved it. The touristy places were crowded, nothing lost if you gave them a miss (maybe not all, the Golden Temple – Namdroling Monastery and the viewpoint called Raja’s seat are still worth a visit); but we can unequivocally say that the best part of the trip was Old Kent Estate.

The resort has villas situated amidst coffee plantations, it is not a resort packed with activities to engage the restless; but rather a place to unwind, soak in the surrounding green, go for long walks, eat delicious food. They serve the best pancakes and maple syrup we have tasted to date. You must be thinking best pancakes in Coorg, really !? You have to try them, the pancakes are melt in the mouth and we want to go back, just for another taste. The resort does not serve alcohol, so if it is an important factor, please check on the same in advance.

The next book is perfect for a setting like Old Kent Estate; you can curl up with the book on a comfy chair inside or sit out on the veranda; read  to the sound of pitter-patter rain.

The book is titled “The Best Couple Ever” by Novoneel Chakraborty. He is apparently a best selling author in India and this is the first book of his that I am reading. The first page of the book acknowledges him as the Sidney Sheldon of India. It been ages since I have read fiction. The TV series have so much drama, why bother to read fiction?

As with all thriller mysteries, tale unfolds with an unexpected twist and you know plot will not be linear. There are three couples in limelight – Kashvi & Parth, Dhrithi & Satyam, Sanisha & Adhik. “A successful relationship, she’d come to understand, wasn’t about discovering how many things you liked about a person. It was about getting used to not complaining about the irritating habits of your partner.” advises a leading female protagonist in the story. Is this the secret behind their Instagram perfect lives? What if someone tries to break the facade, will you fight or fold?

The pages turn fast, but after couple no. 1, it becomes a bit predictable. However, the narration on one couple reveal very little about the life of the others and hence you just can’t put the book down, till you know.

And once again above is the reading list, 3 books down, 2 more to go.
