Bula Fiji !!

Good morning sunshine !!

We landed at the Nadi International Airport, Fiji. Nadi is the tourist capital of Fiji located on the island called Viti Levu and Suva is the political capital. The Nadi airport was once an American airforce base. The there is a smaller airport near Suva, but catering to domestic flights.

The Fiji immigration has an elaborate check on any foreign plant or animal products brought into the country. They screen the check-in baggages before the exit out of the airport. Outside the airport, we were greeted with warm smiles and presented beautiful white shell necklaces. Bula they all say meaning Hello !!

Where are we staying in Fiji? At the Sofitel on Denarau island. Denarau island is about 10 km from Nadi and home to may of the five star resorts and an 18 hole golf course, designed by the famous golf star Vijay Singh

The Sofitel hotel is a dream, as the photos will reveal. The best part is the beach frontage of the property.

As soon as we checked-in, we had a bath and dozed off and by the time we regained consciousness, it was evening.

Dinner was at a restaurant called Salt at the hotel. We tried the Fijian Punch and the Sofitel Sunset. Not a big fan of the blue curaçao in the cocktail, the Sofitel Sunset was just okish but the Fijian Punch was good. We tried the Battered Local Reef Fish and Chips, they divided one plate into two portions which was good, as one plate would have been too much for a single person. For dessert we had the Signature Croissant and Butter Pudding, served with vanilla ice cream, peanut brittle and berry stew. Lip-smacking !!
